An eclectic city, filled with color, subculture, vibrancy, and sunshine – it’s no wonder that Miami tops the list of must-visit cities in the world, and continues to attract A-listers and celebrities alike.
Located in South Florida, with a population of around 442,000 people (locals, tourists, and expats), Miami is famous for its fabulous beaches, nightlife, and stunning art deco scene. The city has a large Latino community – evident in the music, and Spanish is one of the most popular languages spoken – and contrary to popular belief, it is very “liveable” even if you’re not dripping in cash and designer handbags.
Although safe to say, the designer handbags will always go down a treat in Miami.
Read on to find out where to book the best vacation rental spots in this gorgeous city, as we run through some of the most desirable neighborhoods.
South Beach
Admittedly, more “touristy” than other neighbourhoods in Miami, South Beach is the postcard image of Miami.
The area is famously known for Ocean Drive (the neighbourhood’s main strip), which runs parallel to the beachfront and is the hub of all fun activities. Here you’ll find the stunning art deco architecture that everyone talks about, Miami’s famous Art Deco Museum, and just off Washington and Collins Avenue, an enormous choice of restaurants, bars, and nightclubs.
South Beach is also home to Miami Beach Botanical Garden, South Point Park (incredible to view the Floridian sunsets), and Lincoln Road Mall.
We’d recommend staying in South Beach if you’re looking to experience the full scope of Miami’s lifestyle. You’ll have plenty to do at your doorstep (and never be more than half a mile away from Happy Hour!). However, bear in mind, as this is a popular tourist destination, prices for vacation rentals are likely to be steeper than what you’d find in other areas of Miami – but you’ll certainly find that nearly everything is within a reasonable walking distance.
Brickell
Once strictly known as the financial district of Miami, Brickell is now booming with charm, charisma, and energy – and has now become the top destination for young professionals.
If you enjoy tall buildings, rooftop bars, quirky nightclubs and five-star restaurants, then Brickell might be the best neighbourhood for you to book your vacation rental in. A night out here is likely to cost you top dollar; however the area is oozing with luxury and finesse – and some even say is the “only way to enjoy Miami”.
Despite its buzzing nightlife, Brickell is also the top place to stay for business travellers, with quick access to banks and corporate headquarters dotted throughout the city. So, you could very easily hustle during the day, and let loose with fellow party animals in the evening.
The neighbourhood is better known for its luxury hotels, but there’s plenty of choice for holiday homes and expansive vacation rentals, for those who don’t mind investing a little more for their Miami experience.
Coconut Grove
For a quieter and more laid-back stay in Miami, Coconut Grove is a must. This peaceful area on the south edge of the city is known for its charming market called the Cocowalk – where you’ll find streetside cafes, old-time bookstores, and upbeat gastropubs.
This is in direct contrast to Miami’s normally lively nature; but gives you the chance to explore private marinas (alongside modern megayachts), water sports rentals, walking trails, and scenic boardwalks. Indeed, there is something quite serenely romantic about Coconut Grove; and you’ll just be a stone’s throw away from the renowned Vizcaya Museum and Gardens.
Stunning vacation rentals are in abundance at Coconut Grove. You’ll be further away from Miami’s main attractions such as South Beach and Wynwood, but this area is ideal if you’re looking for your own bit of Floridian escapism.
North Beach
If you’re looking for a beachside experience away from the “spring break crowd” and bustle, then North Beach is an ideal choice.
The city’s northernmost neighbourhood is home to miles of beautiful coastline overlooking the Atlantic Ocean. Authentic Latino restaurants and cafes (with the strongest Cuban coffee) are scattered throughout the neighbourhood, and you’ll rarely be caught in a mish-mash of traffic or noise, as you’d find in other parts of Miami.
You’ll find idyllic vacation rentals (condos, small homes, and boutique apartments) along North Beaches’ sandy shores – and while the neighbourhood is a car ride away from central Miami, the laid-back pace of this area is truly refreshing.

Close enough to Miami’s main attractions, but still tucked away in a lovely residential setting, is Coral Gables. As one of the oldest neighbourhoods in Southern Florida, this place is covered in a thick tropical canopy, lined with Spanish-influenced mansions.
Coral Gables is home to the famous Biltmore Hotel (resembling the Spanish cathedral of Seville), which has stood tall since 1926. Other attractions include the Fairchild Tropical Botanic Garden, and the Miracle Mile, an outdoor shopping complex and epicentre of activity in the Coral Gables.
Vacation rentals are ideal in this neighbourhood, as you’ll never be far from Miami’s other main sights and Miami International Airport.
As you might have heard, Luke Stays is looking to expand its vacation rental (short-term rental) portfolio to Miami, Florida. So, keep your eyes peeled on our content, for the latest news and exciting industry updates. (The sunshine might be closer than you think!).
