You’ll always be in good company as an expat in Dubai, as 80% of the city’s population is made up of them. As one of the world’s biggest hotspots for expats – Dubai offers a lifestyle where the line between business and pleasure can get satisfyingly blurred.

It’s no wonder that thousands of professionals are flocking to this sun-drenched slice of heaven, as Dubai offers fantastic career opportunities, rich culture, finesse and flamboyance, and boasts English as the most commonly spoken language.

So, if you’re thinking of moving to Dubai as an expat for work or leisure (or probably a mix of both), have a read of today’s article – which covers how you can find the perfect Emirati home, without feeling overwhelmed or fleeced of all your money.

Life in Dubai

Dubai is one of the few places in the world, where what you see on TV and in popular media isn’t overhyped.

This desert city is dripping with wealth and luxury; and so, life in Dubai can feel very high-tech and even futuristic (like Las Vegas, without the casinos). The city is operated by Sharia Law (a body of religious law that supports Islamic tradition); however, it is massively diverse and there are nightclubs and bars aplenty.

In fact, many claims that Dubai’s Sharia Law has actually helped it become one of the safest places to live in the world, with the lowest crime rates. This will come as a huge relief if you’re going to Dubai for the first time, as part of your move.

Dubai itself was discovered in 1833, but the turning point of its development was the discovery of oil in the 70s. This answers the common question of “Why is Dubai so rich?” – and explains how the city has become a sprawling metropolis and major trading center; all fantastic for business and career opportunities.

While Dubai is one of the seven emirates to make up the country of the United Arab Emirates, it has rapidly become a “standalone” location worldwide, attracting A-listers, celebrities, and the globe’s most rich and famous.

The only downside? Well, Dubai does not offer citizenship (ever!). So, even if you find yourself renewing your work visa time and time again; and have professionally served in the city for decades, don’t expect to call yourself an Emirati.

You’ll certainly benefit from professional help and guidance and all the other laws and regulations of living and working in Dubai, as the culture is quite different to other parts of the world. Bear in mind, if you choose Luke Stays to help you throughout the entire process, the team will be at hand to give you all the information you need.

Where to Live in Dubai

Neighborhoods in Dubai are loosely defined. It might take some time getting used to the fact that there are no street addresses, instead, you’ll refer to something called a “Makani Number” (which sounds confusing, but you’ll get your head around it eventually).

Many claims that downtown Dubai is the most vibrant part of the city. Here, you’ll find many cafes, nightlife options, and amenities that are probably of much better quality than you’d find back home.

Dubai-down-town

The Marina is also another popular neighborhood, which offers “city vibes” and a beautiful waterfront lifestyle. Dubai Marina is home to impressive residential towers, including the world’s tallest “twisted” high-rise Cayan Tower – and if you want to take a break from business for some exciting watersports, the marina is the best place for it! The area is also very family-friendly,  with excellent shopping facilities nearby (hello, Dubai Marina Walk) – so if you’re likely to have loved ones visiting while you’re working abroad, this is a great area for them to stay with you.

There’s also the man-made Palm Jumeirah, which is one of the most luxurious and expensive areas to live in Dubai. There are ample real estate options in this part of Dubai, and a four to the five-bed villa can easily cost around £110,000 a year to rent, and get access to stunning views. The island itself is in the shape of a palm tree and residents here are spoiled with a choice of luxury amenities, shopping places, restaurants, cafes, and entertainment. If you’re looking to experience the excessive opulence that Dubai is known for, while working as an expat in this city, then The Palm has got to be top of mind.

Your New Home in Dubai

Luke Stays is actually intrinsically linked to Dubai, as our founder’s story is heavily inspired by this stunning city. As a result, we’re proud to say that nobody does Dubai “quite like us” – as we understand the lifestyle and opportunities here, better than most.

When it comes to looking for your perfect home, many things will come into play here. For example, whether you will need to be moving from area to area for business purposes (common among our expats), so that we can arrange accommodation accordingly for you. There are also the more obvious things like budget, and your personal preferences to bear in mind – and whether you want to be at the heart of Dubai’s buzzing epicenter, or tucked away in a quieter location.

There’s no denying that Dubai has a reputation for being eye-wateringly expensive, however, we design homes, especially for expats in this city – that can be rented for up to weeks and months at a time, and don’t break the bank. We will even factor in things like public transport and your dining preferences, so you will never be too far from the things that help make you feel most at home.

Your-House

While relocating to a new city is never a walk in the park, we can help make your move to Dubai as stress-free as possible. Essentially, all you’ll need to do is hang your clothes up in the wardrobe when you arrive – and allow us to manage all the stressful responsibilities.
